I love The Postal Service. ‘Be Still My Heart’ was the first song that my son sang to. For a kid who seems like he doesn’t care about the things around him – it was a real surprise to know that he liked this song enough to sing along to it. So, when I was through listening to their songs for the millionth time, I turned to check if the other half of The Postal Service would satiate my hunger for new songs. Deathcab for Cutie, sadly, didn’t do the trick. Even though the vocals were the same, it was too far from being The Postal Service for me. So imagine my delight when I discovered this other project by Jimmy Tamborello. I was checking out the wrong half all along! All I needed was the electro infused (and sometimes rave-themed) beats by Figurine.
If you’re testing the waters for liking this band – Heartfelt is something you can start with. To those who don’t love electronica as much as I do, this song might take some time to get used to. The opening isn’t exactly something that’ll reel you in to listen further – but if you do, you’ll be in for a treat. It’s a song that grows on you and worth the 5-times-in-a-row play. It also garnered a ‘What’s that?’ from my son – which is Paolo-speak for ‘I really dig that song, what’s it called?’.
