They say good things come in small packages – for others, good things come in short bursts — like songs done in two minutes or less. I’ve always had a thing for songs that go over that the five minute mark (without you feeling that it’s going for longer than expected). It’s sort of like the artists playing can’t get enough that they infect you with the same kind of feeling through their song. Ditties, on the other hand, are sweet. They’re like those little collectible items that people just like to keep, or unexpected rare treats that leave you wanting for more. Today’s list is my own collection of less than two minute songs that have, at one point or another, satiated my sweet tooth for little musical treats –
Holiday by wonder for all (0:58)
This song rings true to anyone who’s ever needed a break, and wanted to express their feelings of fondness to someone — with a ukelele accompaniment.
Big Bangs, Black Holes by Love Is All (1:52)
Love Is All, is one of my favorites. May it be a song about TVs or a Flock of Seagulls cover — anything that’s short and sweet from them is truly music to my ears.
Unmentionables by Parenthetical Girls (1:51)
I could never get enough of Zac Pennington’s androgynous voice, especially since he writes the most interestingly beautiful lyrics.
Run Run Run by The Pipas (1:13)
It’s a song with breezy vocals and a catchy tune, what’s not to like?
Absolutely Cuckoo by The Magnetic Fields (1:34)
This is the first Magnetic Fields song that I’ve ever loved and it’s also the first one that made me laugh out loud.
The Lonely Life of a UFO Researcher by Tullycraft (1:59)
A song that’s like a love song, but not. This one’s for your inner X-files obsession.
She Broke His Penis in Two by Loveninjas (1:55)
The title says it all, and explains it all in less than 2 minutes (with a lovely pop beat to boot.)
Stardust by Irene (1:16)
This cute song always leaves me wanting for more, especially when I imagine Elvis singing it complete with the lip curl. Uh-huh-huh.
