Artist Bio:
Evripidis and his Tragedies began as a personal musical project of Evripidis Sabatis who left Athens, Greece to live in Barcelona, Spain ....in the beginning it was a solo thing but then Evripidis discovered that his girlfriends Marisol (from the groups Eleva, Elevator), Nora, Odil and Annie (from the group How dare U!) had all fantastic voices and a lot of talent...apart from being really fun to hang around with! During the same time Cristina was added on violin, giving the necessary dark wave-meets-baroque touch. Later there was Iker (from the groups Mus, Las Esferas Invisibles) on bass and occasional guitar and Jaume on drums (although he was not a drummer, but that was the brilliant thing...he used to play keyboards with the Epic Kind). So, depending on the venue Evripidis and his tragedies were a one-man show or a crowded scene really.
After recording a 7-inch single in collaboration with Spanish artists Jeleton, Evripidis and is Tragedies recorded his debut on Barcelonas Touchme records produced by long time collaborator Manel Ibaez (from the groups Bubbles, Les tres bien enseble, Megaafonia) and Gerard Civat. After some time some key changes took place. Since Iker lives in another city......[Read More]

Since Iker lives in another city, a new bass player was added, Aleix (a very prolific kid as he is also a member of Alba y Aleix and Extraperlo and played in a zillion other bands from time to time...) and a saxophone player, and Abel ( Le Pianc, El guisante magico) who added a groovy touch to whichever song he should set his hands upon...and he is also a good dancer (What do you mean is he a good dancer? well how does he dance? close, very very close...)! So they went on,working on new songs and giving concerts...once more, they could be 9 people on stage being noisy loud or just Evripidis humming quietly...or maybe Evripidis just with Marisol...or Marisol and Anie...or Marisol and Anie and Abel...all the combinations were posible and still are.
Last year they recorded a version of the Magnetic Fields song "Time Enough for Rocking When We Are Old" for a tribute CD. In addition, they also recorded a 9-song EP in collaboration with Catalan visual artist David Bestu. For this project, as well as for the Magnetic Fields cover, producers were Manel Ibaez and Gerard Civat.
This year new changes took place. Aleix went to tour with El Guincho and Victor came to play the bass. Evripidis flatmate Mark Ribera (from he group Abrevadero) started collaborating regularly, recording and singing in concerts. Also Abels brother Sergi started recording and playing with them ocasionally. Nora lives in another city and Odil is making her own music.
Evripidis and his Tragedies recently recorded the soundtrack for a short film by Jordi Cusso that will be shown soon. Evripidis and his Tragedies is currently preparing a new record with all those people who played with him this last year and some new ones, playing live, rehearsing, sipping cocktails, driving himself(and the unlucky others who are close to him) crazy and writing some more music.
